When Seconds Matter: How 3rd-i Could Have Helped During the Texas Floods

In early July, devastating floods swept through Texas, taking lives, displacing families, and overwhelming emergency services. Roads became rivers in minutes. People were stranded on rooftops, trapped in vehicles, or swept away before they could call for help.

Our hearts go out to every victim, every grieving family, and every community now recovering from this tragedy.

In situations like this, visibility and speed are everything. That’s where 3rd-i could have made a life-saving difference.

During a widespread disaster, dispatchers are often flooded with calls and left trying to understand what’s happening through broken signals, vague locations, and panicked voices.

3rd-i changes that.

With the tap of a button, 3rd-i users can stream their live video, audio, and GPS location directly to emergency dispatchers and chosen family or friends. In a flooding scenario like Texas, this could have allowed first responders and friends to see exactly where a person was — what their surroundings looked like, whether they were trapped in rising waters, injured, or needed evacuation. And that would be recorded and timestamped.

How 3rd-i Could Have Helped

Rather than struggling to explain where they were, users could have shared a real-time GPS feed — including their current position and recent route — helping emergency teams pinpoint their location instantly. And if they had to go on the move, we have a feature called ‘Trips’ where the user can stream and record their livestream and route to friends and family of their choice. It will record the route the user was supposed to take, the route the user actually took and provide alert notifications if the user ended the trip early or arrived at the desired location.
